“Altered Carbon” Star Martha Higareda Shares Her Insider’s Guide To Los Angeles

Martha Higareda is living an altered life in L.A. The Mexican actress is starring in Netflix‘s new alternative reality show, Altered Carbon, which is based on Richard K. Morgan’s classic cyberpunk novel of the same name and takes place 700 years in the future, where the mind is completely digitized and downloaded from body to body. Martha plays the role of ‘Kristin Ortega,’ a detective with a complicated past, opposite of Joel Kinnaman and James Purefoy.

In addition to her new series, Martha has had massive success in her home country, recently starring in No Manches, No Manches Frida—which achieved the third-best opening ever for a Mexican movie in Mexico—while also writing, producing, and starring in the family comedy, 3 Idiotas and starring in 2017’s comedy/horror film, Deadtectives. She is also the star of Casese Quien Pueda (Get Married If You Can), which broke records at the Mexican box office and became the third highest grossing Mexican comedy of all time. Describe your city in three words: Multicultural, fun, sunny.

Favorite historic/legendary place to see or explore: Downtown, a tour to all the art deco buildings.
All-around favorite spot in Los Angeles: I love Santa Monica and the concerts on the beach in the summer, the Hollywood cemetery movies and hiking the Hollywood hills.

Best Aspect of Los Angeles: You can do so many outdoor activities; surfing in the ocean for surfing, lying on the beach, hiking in the Malibu trails or the Hollywood hills. You don’t have to drive far to get to nature. Also, I love all the buzz and hip in down town and all the fun bars and clubs in West Hollywood and Hollywood. Los Angeles has the best sushi in the Country. The best Mexican food is in Alvarado St in down town. Great standup comedy spots and tons of events at the Staples Center. And let’s not forget everything movies related, from being the city where the Studios are, where the real magic happens, to watching your favorite movie at the Hollywood Cemetery. I love the diversity of people here, entering into a coffee shop and hearing all the many different accents. And that it’s always sunny.
