Mayura Celebrates Dussehra and Diwali with a Fusion Menu Blending Tradition and Innovation
Mayura Brings the Spirit of Dussehra and Diwali to Barcelona
The Mayura restaurant in Barcelona celebrates two of India’s most iconic festivals — Dussehra and Diwali — with a culinary experience that blends tradition, memory, and a touch of modern fusion. These festivals, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and the Festival of Lights respectively, fill Indian homes and cities with joy, candles, fireworks, and color.“For us, it’s a time to let light into our lives, to give thanks, and to wish for happiness, prosperity, and health,” explains Raj Kapoor, owner of Mayura. Inspired by this message, the restaurant has created a Dussehra and Diwali Menu designed to connect Barcelona with the soul of India — not only through gastronomy but through culture and emotion.
A Menu That Combines Memory and Modernity
Available from October 2 to 22, this limited-time menu is a fusion of Indian tradition and Western influence, crafted to evoke nostalgia and celebration. It includes three starters, three main courses, and three desserts, each reflecting the festive essence of these special occasions. One of the standout starters is a chicken and cheddar samosa — a childhood favorite of Raj’s — offering a flavorful twist on the classic vegetarian recipe. “As kids, we eagerly awaited this dish every year,” he recalls. Another highlight is the Jalfrezi, a beloved Indian curry, and the Tangri Kebab, a tandoor-roasted marinated chicken leg specially prepared for the occasion.
Authentic Flavors of India Reimagined
The Dussehra and Diwali Menu invites diners to experience what Raj describes as “a true gift from India” — a chance to share, celebrate, and rediscover the comforting aromas and spices of home-cooked Indian cuisine. “We want every guest to feel a step closer to India without actually traveling there,” says Raj.For €32, the tasting menu includes:
Starters: – Chicken and cheddar samosa — a festive twist on the classic vegetarian version. – Pulao, a colorful and spiced North Indian rice pilaf. – Kofta Masala, vegan seitan meatballs served in a delicate Indian-spiced sauce.
Main Courses: – Chicken Lababdar, a Punjabi specialty of tender chicken simmered in a rich tomato, nut, and onion masala. – Vegetable Jalfrezi, a traditional, flavorful curry. – Tangri Kebab, yogurt-marinated chicken leg cooked in the tandoor, served with classic Naan bread.
Diwali Desserts: – Gulab Jamun, Raj’s childhood favorite — fried milk and flour balls soaked in rose- and cardamom-infused syrup. – Rasmalai, fresh cheese dumplings in sweet saffron milk, garnished with nuts. – Mango Lassi, India’s refreshing and aromatic yogurt drink.
