Meet Mike Lin: The Entrepreneur Behind T-Shirts Matter, A Disruptive Merch Company for Social Good

Digitizing real-world objects as NFTs on the blockchain is a trending subject. The metaverse's growing mature concept continues to attract headlines in all media outlets. The truth is we are in a new era where many artworks are being sold as NFTs. Mike Lin, also known as "the Banksy of trademarks," has revealed an NFT collection that illuminates well-known Banksy works. He is the founder & CEO of T-Shirts Matter, a dis’ruptive merch company for social good inspired by Obey Giant & Banksy. He’s a big fan of the Apple commercial 'The Crazy Ones.'

T-Shirts Matter and NFTs

T-Shirts Matter is a company whose name was inspired by a post by Adam Nash in November of 2010 entitled: 'Why T-Shirts Matter.' Mike Lin, the founder & CEO of T-Shirts Matter, started the company as merch company for social good inspired by Banksy's works. He is also on the path to selling Non-fungible tokens by famous street artists from England, Banksy. The Banksy NFTs, ranging in price from 72 cents to $1 million, are expected to cause a stir in the NFT and art world with their unique and rare qualities combined with the popularity of Banksy's art.

Mike Lin will hold back 10 NFTs for auction at Sotheby's and Christie's Auction House. 11% of the net proceeds from the sale of Banksy NFTs will be donated to Doctors Without Borders in Banksy's name and an additional 11% will be split between Daffy.org (donated to non-profits & charitable causes) and the T-Shirts Matter Foundation (donated to the arts).

The pricing of the Banksy NFTs was inspired by various sources including Mike Lin's birth year of 1972 for the 72 cent Banksy NFTs and the $2.22 & $22.22 Banksy NFTs are inspired by Taylor Swift's hit song "22". The majority of the NFTs, 1,200+ out of 1,500+, will be offered at $60, inspired by Banksy's 2013 Central Park sale of signed canvas prints for the same price.

Mike has uploaded the NFTs on OpenSea, the largest NFT platform using Ethereum cryptocurrency.

The Journey To Becoming An Entrepreneur: Lessons To Learn

Becoming an entrepreneur is a journey, and no two people seem to travel this path the same way. Some people breeze through the process, arriving at their destination of success in weeks after putting their great plan into action. Others move more slowly, devoting their entire lives to honing their craft over several decades. Others begin their careers immediately after graduating high school, while others spend years earning a master's degree in business from an accredited university. Mike Lin is a serial entrepreneur. In a literal sense, he has his hands all over deck when it comes to entrepreneurship, and the best thing is, he seems to have too much fun and making good money doing it.

From Warped Tour to VIP Passes

Mike Lin's entrepreneurial journey started in 1996. He taught himself how to develop websites in 1996 and code HTML to ride the wave of the time. At that time, he was able to design the first Vans warped Tour Website, where they went out on the road creating content for the website. He created the X Games Volunteers site in 1999, which would, in turn, pay off with a VIP pass to the games some years later. In 2000, he designed the Green Day website and met the band in their East Bay studio while they were recording 'Warning'. He would then work at Yahoo from 2002-2006, after which he worked at LinkedIn between 2006 -2010 as a User Experience designer.

The Non-Stop Entrepreneurial Spirit of Mike

As you can already tell, Mike is not one for settling down and is always ahead of time. Take notes because, even though there is no perfect guide to entrepreneurship, a few procedures must be performed before initiating.

Mike went to Pomona College in California, about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. He was a concert promoter in college, and before they released their first album, Mike booked Rage Against the Machine for $325. Mike also booked No Doubt before they released their first album for $1,350. After college, Mike worked for Kevin Lyman & Ray Woodbury working as their office assistant. Ray & Kevin’s company RKDE worked for the Los Angeles based concert promoter Goldenvoice. Mike worked as a roadie at shows for lots of bands including the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Porno for Pyros.

In conclusion, Mike Lin is a serial entrepreneur who has made a name for himself through his dis’ruptive merch company, T-Shirts Matter, inspired by Banksy's works. He has also entered the world of NFTs, selling well-known Banksy works as digital assets. Mike's journey as an entrepreneur started in 1995 when he taught himself how to develop websites and created the first Vans Warped Tour Website in 1996. He has since worked with various companies, including Sapient, Yahoo, LinkedIn & Zynga, and has always maintained his entrepreneurial spirit. While there is no perfect guide to becoming an entrepreneur, Mike's journey is a testament to the importance of taking risks, being creative, and staying ahead of the curve.
