Disney Announces New Original Animated Film Hexed for November 2026

Disney returns to original storytelling with Hexed

At this year’s Destination D23, Walt Disney Animation Studios unveiled its next big original project: Hexed, scheduled to hit theaters in November 2026. The announcement highlights Disney’s renewed focus on original stories after recent years dominated by sequels such as Frozen 2 and Zootopia.

A magical family story

Hexed promises a blend of fantasy adventure and heartfelt family drama. The story follows an awkward teenage boy and his Type-A mother who discover that his peculiar quirks are actually signs of hidden magical powers. Their discovery catapults them into a secret world of magic, forcing them to redefine family, identity, and belonging. Like many of Disney’s most beloved films, Hexed is set to explore themes of self-discovery and acceptance—this time through the lens of a mother-son relationship facing extraordinary challenges.

The creative team behind the film

The project is helmed by two Disney veterans: Josie Trinidad, co-head of story for the Oscar-winning Zootopia Jason Hand, who co-directed Moana 2 Together, they bring a wealth of storytelling expertise to Hexed, aiming to deliver an original hit on par with modern classics like Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon.

Why Hexed matters

Disney has seen massive box office success with sequels, but fans and critics alike have been eager for more fresh, original stories from the studio. Hexed signals a step in that direction, blending the magic of classic Disney with a contemporary emotional core.
